2024 January-April Technical Textiles Industry Operation in Brief


From January to April 2024, the industrial textile industry continued its good development trend in the first quarter, the growth rate of industrial added value continued to expand, the main economic indicators of the industry and key sub-areas continued to pick up and improve, and the export trade maintained steady growth.

In terms of product, industrial coated fabrics were the industry’s highest export value, reaching US$1.64 billion, up 8.1% year-on-year; felts/tents followed with US$1.55 billion, down 3% year-on-year; and exports of nonwovens(like spunbond, meltblown, etc  held up well, with 468,000 tons of exports valued at US$1.31 billion, up 17.8% and 6.2% year-on-year, respectively.The export of disposable sanitary products (diapers, sanitary napkins, etc.) fell back, the export value of 1.1 billion U.S. dollars, a slight decline of 0.6%, of which the export value of female sanitary products fell significantly, down 26.2% year-on-year; the export value of industrial fiberglass products increased by 3.4% year-on-year, the export value of sailcloth, leather-based fabrics increased narrowed to 2.3%, the wire rope (cable) with textiles and textiles for packaging The decline in export value of cord (cable) belt textiles and packaging textiles have deepened; the overseas demand for wiping products is strong, the export value of wiping cloths (excluding wet wipes) is 530 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 19% year-on-year, and the export of wet wipes maintains a rapid growth in exports to 300 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 38% year-on-year.

In terms of sub-fields, the operating revenue and total profit of enterprises above designated size in the nonwovens industry increased by 3% and 0.9% year-on-year in January-April, and the operating profit margin was 2.1%, which was the same as that in the same period of 2023; the operating revenue of enterprises above designated size in the ropes, cords and cables industry increased by 26% year-on-year, with growth rate ranking the first in the industry, and the total profit increased by 14.9% year-on-year, and the operating profit margin was 2.9%, which was a year-on-year decrease of 0.3 percentage points; textile belt, cordura industry enterprises above designated size of operating income and total profit increased by 6.5% and 32.3% respectively, operating profit margin of 2.3%, an increase of 0.5 percentage points; tents, canvas industry enterprises above designated size of operating income decreased by 0.9% year-on-year, total profit increased by 13% year-on-year, operating profit margin of 5.6%, up by 0.7 Percentage points; filtration, geotextiles in the other industrial textiles industry above-scale enterprises’ operating income and total profit increased by 14.4% and 63.9% year-on-year, respectively, and 6.8% operating profit margin for the industry’s highest level, up 2.1 percentage points year-on-year.
